GENERATOR HIRE: Select the right size.
Check if induction start (ie bigger motor units such as compressor or bricksaw) - they have a capacitor often with a re-set switch on the motor. Check the number of watts on the id plate of the tool or appliance.
- If not induction start, the number of watts must be less than the generator maximum.
- If induction start the motor needs more power to start. Multiply watts on id plate x 2.5. This must be less than generator maximum.
Does it matter if I hire a generator the wrong size?
- Too big a generator is no problem.
- Too small a generator and either the machine won't start, or if it does it'll be damaged.
- Lots of equipment for a party? It gets technical so call us for advice to ensure you hire the correct size generator.
